Why do I have to have one of these air tightness tests?

The simple answer is because the building regulations say so.

Beyond that, it's good for the environment, confirms a good build of the property and it saves you money on your utility bills.

The less energy needed to heat your home, the less CO2 we create, the less impact to the environment. Now, if we were on the Continent, I would have to say something about the air conditioning, but, let's face it, we don't do much on the cooling side in this country!

As far as the good build goes, if you have a 12 inch by 12 inch hole under the kitchen stove that never got filled in, then you might want to know about it. This actually happened in one of my first tests and it wasn't pretty. But, it also caused the builder a bit of grief to sort it out.

When you can have your heat on for less, you spend less on gas, hence lower utility bills.

I hope this helps
