Preparing for an Air Tightness Test

We should keep this simple by saying that an air tightness test should be done just prior to occupation when all of the fixtures and fittings are in place and someone could move in the next day. That being said, we don't live in a dream world either.

  • Plastering needs to be completed and all fixtures in place as they block out air leading into voids and roof spaces.
  • Electricity needs to be on for the fan and computers to work.
  • Covers need to be on to limit the amount of air chasing the wiring through the house.
  • Skirting needs to be on to finish off the join between the walls and the floor.  Ideally this should be sealed either behind the skirting or on top and bottom of the skirting board.
  • Plumbing needs to be installed and water in all the traps.
  • Extractors need to be installed and sealed around the edges of the units.
  • Attic doors and access should be finalised
  • Trickle Vents should be installed if they are required
  • External doors and windows installed ... I hope you would have guessed that one :)

For more information or to book a test, call me on 01484 686649 or visit my website on http://www.hometestingyorkshire.co.uk/

I hope this helps,

 Matt
